Broke a hard drive

In my attempt to upgrade my measly 10gb hard drive in one of our computers. I broke the replacement drive, which is no big deal since it was only a 60 gb 4 year old Maxtor; I think it pooped out either when I erased it or when I was a little rough on it taking it out and putting it back in. Oh well, next time I'll know what I'm doing, and I'll have a spare to practice on.

AMD Geode NX

My AMD Geode NX 1750, with motherboard, is making it's way across the country as I type. Hopefully it'll get here by Monday, fingers crossed, and I can finally get rid of that old AMD K6-2 450 MHZ thing that we've had since 1998. This Geode is going to be sweet! God, I hope it doesn't come DOA.
        I will post pictures!

ZenWalk

Well, Zenwalk hasn't exactly been a peaceful experience, had they included a nice little installer GUI, I would have been quite happy. Also it might have been nice to know that as a normal user I cannot run any commands, I mean seriously; I spent almost a good hour trying to install ndiswrapper, a good portion of that hour was drivled away trying to transfer the damn thing. Thankfully, the ndiswrapper included with Zenwalk worked flawlessly. Now the only "problems," they're actually more or less annoyances, is that I have to press the power button to shut off and I have to fire up Wifi-Scaner or whatever it's called to get internet. Otherwise, everything's running fairly well. One thing I have noticed is that I am far more patient with guis than with terminal. A couple of clicks is no biggie, a couple of keystrokes is death. ;)
Oh right, just a reminder. ZenWalk is a variant of Slackware so just use the package thing to install stuff, Zenwalk or Slackware versions, and we'll be just fine.
So for the record, 3 of 4 computers in the Tsai household are running Linux: Ubuntu, Kubuntu and ZenWalk.

Laptop Battery

It's spent, do doubt about that. Now the only question s whether I'm willing to spend $70 more dollars on this computer. I mean it's nice enough for being 5-6 years old, but so far it's already cost us $30 for the wireless card and $60 for the hard drive, bring the total to almost $100 dollars, plus countless man hours trying to get the darn thing to work. On top of that, this thing doesn't even move much, so the added cost of the battery is probably outwieghted by the fact that this thing isn't going to be mobile that long. Descisions descisions, what to do?
